Nicole Yip is a curator and arts professional based between London and Singapore. Her practice explores how cultural inheritance and transnational memory function within contexts of social and political conditioning.
Her interests are shaped by autobiographical concerns, including the complexities of “Chineseness” as experienced by Chinese-descended Southeast Asians. National language policies, interethnic contact and global migration patterns raise questions of cultural inheritance, including language, memory and intergenerational values.
Her research attends to the tensions between ancestry, heritage and everyday life, and between private and public perception. Much of her work has developed through autoethnographic reflection and close engagement with diasporic artists and practitioners working across transnational histories and inherited representations. This has shaped a focus on working with archives, oral history and dialogues, as well as exhibition formats.
Nicole is co-founder of sept., a curatorial collective connecting practitioners across the UK and East and Southeast Asia. The collective has delivered projects with international organisations including the Koppel Project (London), Art Hub Studios (London), FILET (London), and YAO Alternative Space (Taiwan).
She holds an MA in Curating Contemporary Art from the Royal College of Art and an MBA (Distinction) from UAL Central Saint Martins, jointly with Birkbeck, University of London. Prior to her MA, she accumulated experience in the art market and client-facing contexts, bringing a strong operational foundation across communication, research, project management and exhibition production. She was selected as a mentee for the Communicating the Arts 30 Under 30 Mentorship Programme 2026.
