This place was once a playing field. Standing here now, the trace of competition lives in the lines on the floor forming boundaries, the exact measurements, the opposing symmetry. The expectation that sides are drawn, and an inevitable ending towards either victory or loss. Is this instinct only awakened when we step into the architecture, or are we carrying it all the time?

With the collapse of centralised speech, voices are now fragmented, and the way we form perspectives is never neutral. Every perspective influences another, creating an endless chain of positions. So that our expression no longer moves in a singular outward direction but circulates endlessly in ways that find us swimming in confusion.

How do we stay afloat in this sea of confusion? Some turn toward quieter and more personal narratives, while others choose humour, individuality and ways of speaking that can’t be neatly placed into sides. These acts do not carry an agenda to lead a new way, nor is there any certainty about what will result from their convergence. There is only the act of speaking in a shape one has chosen for oneself. Can this purposeless speech leave the playing field?

This place was once a playing field. Sides were drawn, outcomes decided, crowds roaring together toward a single direction. That structure is not unfamiliar. A world in which you must declare which side you are on before speech can begin. This exhibition suspends that declaration, and in its place, puts those who chose to speak without choosing a side.
